Christmas is such a special magical time. The lead up to December 25th has to be my favourite. The decorating, the baking (or just eating hehe) the festivities…the list goes on! The anticipation and reflection on the advent season brings peace, joy and love into my heart.
We’ve started some traditions over here and I am so excited to share them with you! It’s never too late to start your own.
1. Advent Calendar
Chocolate advent calendars are my jam. But this year we’ve started making our own. I got this OUI advent calendar from indigo. Each day is a small surprise for someone in the family. A chocolate, stickers, a love note, even a treat for the dog! Each family member is responsible for a couple of days, to make it fun and exciting.
2. Christmas Book
Books are a wonderful introduction to all things Christmas for kids. Curling up near the tree or watching the snow fall outside, a new books is always a must! We gift this December 1st, and read it all month long!
3. Christmas Pyjamas
What screams Christmas more than a matching set of family pyjamas? There’s something awesome about a new pair of jammers. This years set is from The Gap. Put the fireplace on and a classic W network xmas movie and call it a night!
4. Elf on the Shelf
Will I regret this? Maybe... But the pure joy and excitement I’ll see in my little guys eyes every morning will make it all worth it. First year of welcoming this little elf, wish us luck!
5. Tree Cutting
Nothing beats a fresh cut tree. We’ve made it a family event to bring our saws and pull up our sleeves to pick the perfect tree. So fun and an amazing way to spend time in nature. We locally go to Merry Farms.
6. Donating Toys / Sponsoring a Family
Spread cheer to those who need it most this holiday season. I often think that we have enough and there is always an opportunity to give to others, within your means, nothing is ever too small. Depending on the year, we donate toys to a local charity, or sponsor a family. If you’re interested in sponsoring someone this Christmas season, you can support The Good Shepard.
What are some of your family traditions? I’d love to hear them!
Merry Christmas, Wesołych Swiat!
